Regardless of whether you’re buying or selling, you’re likely to spend a good amount of time with your agent. Here’s how to select a real estate agent you will love working with.
1. Read Reviews.
For better or worse, the Internet is chock full of reviews—for restaurants and movies, cars and home appliances. And real estate agents, too! Reviews give us even more insight than a personal recommendation because review sites capture numerous clients’ experiences. Since most review sites don’t allow businesses to remove negative reviews, these sites provide real information. At Broker Asheville, we’re pretty amazed with our reviews (if we do say so ourselves). Check them out: here and here and here and here.
2. Meet with a prospective agent and do a gut check.
If you’ve gotten a recommendation or identified an agent from an online search, request a meeting with the agent. This is a great opportunity to ask questions about the process and to see if an agent feels like a good fit. If you’re looking to buy, ask yourself if this is someone who you would enjoy looking at houses with. If you’re looking to sell, consider if the agent feels like someone who would represent you well. Do they put you at ease? Do they seem like a solid communicator? Could this agent lead you through a successful and even fun transaction? If so, chances are you’ve found your match. Give us a call, and let’s get coffee.
3. Be honest.
Picking an agent is an opportunity to get honest about what you’re looking for. Maybe you’re hoping for an agent who can educate you about how buying or selling works. Perhaps, you need someone who can help you figure out how to restyle your existing home or renovate one in your price range. Not everyone is looking for the same thing from an agent, so communicating clearly assures you’ll get exactly what you’re hoping for.
