Just Call Cameron! A Profile of Cameron Lewis, Senior Mortgage Lender at Acopia

Cameron Lewis helps individuals transform their financial lives. As a senior mortgage loan officer at Acopia Home Loans, Cameron helps Asheville’s buyers finance their home buying dreams. At Broker Asheville, we’re lucky to work with Asheville best real estate professionals, and Cameron is one of our favorites. When our clients are exploring creative financing options or need some help figuring out how to secure a loan, we often tell them, “Just call Cameron!”
Q: What does your job as a senior mortgage loan officer entail?
A: I help individuals plan for the biggest financial investment of their lives. To an outsider, it may appear that we just provide loan pre-qualification letters and close mortgage loans, but there’s more to it than that. Clients need direction and guidance. They want a loan officer with experience and in-depth financial knowledge to listen, provide the best mortgage recommendation, and confirm that their mortgage loan fits within the context of their overall financial plan. It’s all about building a relationship and doing what’s right for each client.
Q: What got you interested in the real estate business?
A: I remember reading a Wall Street Journal from cover to cover when I was in high school. (It took me about 3 hours!) I became hooked on the intricacies and interconnectedness of markets.  Getting into the mortgage business was a perfect fit and combination of the things I enjoyed most. I’ve been in mortgage business since 2001.
Q: What advice do you have for buyers?
A: It pays to work with an expert.  Don’t short-change yourself by trying to cut corners and do things on your own. Hire a real estate professional with local knowledge to guide you through the process. It will save you time and money in the long run and open doors to opportunities that may not be available otherwise.
Q: What’s the best part of what you do?
A: Educating clients, making a difficult process simple, and earning the trust of skeptical
buyers. The smiles, hugs, and “Thank Yous” at closings.  Helping a first time homebuyer  purchase a home that didn’t think home buying was possible.
Q: When you’re not helping buyers secure financing, what are you up to?
A: I love to coach youth basketball. I coached at the YMCA for seven years and now coach my nine-year-old’s team at the Henderson County Rec League. Taking boys under ten and teaching them to selflessly work as a unit while gaining self-confidence and learning sportsmanship—It’s the greatest feeling! I love being with my family, playing sports with my kids, kayak fishing at the coast, and riding my 19-year-old Trek 8000 Hard Tail Mountain bike. It’s a gem! Taking a ski lift to the highest peak on the mountain, taking off my skis and hiking to an untouched peak blanketed with fresh snow and carving through deep powder up to your waist. Ahhhh…Nothing gets better than that!
Q: What’s your favorite Asheville neighborhood?
A: I love Grove Park. It has beautiful older homes in a very established neighborhood close to Downtown Asheville, and it features some great biking and running routes that can take you up Sunset Mountain to the Blue Ridge Parkway.  The mature trees and surprise views of the Grove Park Inn, surrounding mountains, and downtown valley are hard to beat.
Q: At Broker Asheville, we love to eat! What’s your favorite best local bite?
A: Toss up between the pulled pork barbeque plate at 12 Bones and The Rainbow Roll at Wasabi.
Q: Coolest Asheville moment?
A: Riding the exercise bike beside President Obama at the Grove Park Inn in 2010. We discussed real estate, mortgage lending, basketball, and raising kids. But what brought me to Asheville are the mountains, rivers, people, quality of life, caring supportive community feel, and overall beauty. Being 4-5 hours from the beaches of SC is pretty cool, too!
